Always in Motion
By Silvia Ledon
This afternoon, I sat outside. At first glance, it was just a lovely summer day, blue sky, warm sun, birds calling from somewhere unseen. But when I paused long enough to really notice, my heart was moved. Seeing and noticing are not the same. May you and I always notice, dear reader.
A single leaf floated down like a dancer, turning gently in the breeze. Just beside me, a spider spun its web, delicate, precise, persistent. I could feel the wind brushing my skin, stirring the trees, setting their leaves to whisper. As I walked, I listened. I breathed in the sweet fragrance of flowering trees. And then, looking up, I saw the moon: bright and seemingly still, unapologetically luminous against the wide, blue sky.
What struck me was this: the world is always moving, always alive. The earth turns; the moon travels; the wind never stops. Creatures are born and grow. Seasons shift. Everything changes. Every second is unrepeatable. The world I saw just now will never be exactly the same again.
God is always doing something.
Even when our lives feel still, when progress is invisible or hope feels thin, God remains active, in mystery, in quiet, and in the hidden spaces we do not yet understand.
If we trusted this, really trusted it, maybe we would sense the relentless and powerful movement of God in our everyday and mundane moments. What if the Spirit is actively changing us, moving us, growing us, pursuing us, and loving us every second of every minute? How would our perspective change if we noticed this, and how would our hearts respond?
How is God moving in your life today?
This minute?
This hour?
This day?
What is stirring?
What is aching?
What feels hard?
What feels holy?
What is your longing?
What are you being called toward?
God, who watches over you, never sleeps, never slumbers. ~ Psalm 121:3-4
