Lectio Divina

This is another ancient practice on how to read the Bible with your heart.

  1. Pick a short passage of Scripture (no more than 10-15 verses)

  2. Read it slowly. Resist the need to analyze it. Instead, notice the words or phrases that jump at you.

  3. Read it again a second time. This time use your imagination. Put yourself in the scene. For example, in the passage of Jesus and his disciples in the storm, imagine yourself to be one of the disciples, imagine what the weather felt like on your skin, what you were feeling, what others were saying around you, what you were saying to Jesus, etc. Pause and reflect.

  4. Read it a third and last time. Notice if God is saying something specific to you, something applicable to your life today.

  5. Meditate on the passage of Scripture throughout the day or even the week. How is God calling you to respond?

  6. Thank God for Scripture and for his transforming and powerful voice in your life.
